There are 13 belts in karate:
white, red, yellow, orange, 2nd orange, green, 2nd green, blue, 2nd blue, brown, 2nd brown, red white and blue (1st KYU) and black. After black belt you go up dans but to take your grading-for your 2nd dan black belt you have to be 18 or over. Grading's are an exam where you show a sequence of moves call a karter. You are judged by 4 - 8 people. You get scored on how well you perform and are only allowed 2 mistakes or your fail. If you pass you are given a score of 1,2 or 3 (1 being the best). When you reach 2nd blue belt you get weapons.
